The Water Social Alliance: Murcia's Commitment to Sustainability and Participationa

Aguas de Murcia y el Ayuntamiento de Murcia sealed in March 2024 a significant milestone in their commitment to Murcian society by materializing the signing of the 'Water Social Alliance'.

More than 50 representative entities of Murcian civil society, including professional associations, universities, research centers, consumer and business associations, as well as third sector organizations, have signed this transcendental agreement. The Alliance is based on essential principles such as the social power of water, universal accessibility, local economic development, social innovation, network collaboration, solidarity, employment, education, sustainability, transparency and participation.

Representatives of the Water Social Alliance gathered at EDAR Murcia-Este.

The main objective of this Alliance is the creation of a participation space open to diverse social, economic and political agents. This space is conceived as a catalyst for dialogue, collaboration and co-creation, seeking to guarantee economically just and environmentally sustainable development for the municipality of Murcia.

The Water Social Alliance emerges as the result of the effort of a series of groups that have been working during recent years to reach this point. Aguas de Murcia is a company, the first in the sector, that has managed to balance its CO2 emissions through sustainability actions in all areas, with the participation and collaboration of the entities with which this agreement is consolidated.

The Alliance is born with the firm purpose of continuing to advance toward a more sustainable city model and continuing to contribute value to society.

In the field of social action, the Alliance promotes programs with a direct impact on people, offering tools and strategies to mitigate situations of vulnerability and drive social transformation toward a more just, inclusive and sustainable model. This work is carried out in close collaboration with civic, social and public entities.

Likewise, the program contemplates an inclusive and diverse guarantee, adapted to each need, implementing channels that allow attending to any person, with a special focus on the digital divide and elderly people.
